Who said baby boy things can't be cute?

We have some exciting news in our family. It's a baby boy to be born in October. When I first heard it was going to be a boy, I had a teeny tiny twinge of disappointment. I'm a little embarrassed to admit it. This was only because I thought it would be so much fun to sew and knit girly things. But I'm over it now and coming up with lots of ideas.

Yesterday I did my tried and true Bow Wow Booties pattern. They knit up really fast, but there are some putsy aspects to the eyes, nose and hiding the yarn ends. So, I took advantage of our one day of sun this week to sit outside and finish them off. The pattern for them is for sale. Scroll down on the right side for details. (Just click on the picture.)

I also bought a pattern and fabric to sew a hoodie and pants. When presented with the total, I was a little surprised. I think purchasing ready-made is probably a cheaper alternative. But then I'd miss the fun of making something for my first grandchild. For the jacket I found a red polar fleece that has little black paw prints on it. The pants will be out of a black cotton knit that has some spandex in it. Shouldn't be too hard to sew.

Stay tuned for more adorable baby stuff to come!

Mar - How exciting! I'm sure you will find lots of fun things to knit and sew for the addition.

And you'll have to suffer through every one of them, Maria Ann!!!

I love your booties and kids clothes are just about the cutest and most satisfying things to make
.
I've been reading a lot in recent years about the garment industry and have been constantly appalled by the total absence of basic human rights in many of these "sweat shop factories".
It has prompted me to become more conscious of what I can make myself.
So, yes, it is more expensive to make things yourself, Mar, but you made them in a heated, comfortable home and on a full stomach. No child labourer had a day of misery in order to put cheap ready made on your grandson's body. He will be clothed with love. That's priceless!

I agree, Mary. And the other curious thing is that California requires a chemical on children's clothing that makes them non-flammable. Sounds like good intentions, but who wants extra chemicals on baby stuff? When you sew you can look for the message: "not for use on children's sleepwear" which, I hope, is a clue that there are no added chemicals.

That answers a question I had whilst material shopping online.
I've seen that on 100% pure cotton and wondered why it was there.

Actually, I'm not 100% sure about this, but just assuming that the absence of fire retardant labeling means it's ok!

Oh Mar, that is just sooo cute!! I can't wait to see it made up.

I was a little diappointed when we had our first g'kid & it was a boy. Now we have 8 boys!! & a new baby girl due in August. I had given up on the girl.

I love your little Puppy Dog slippers too!!

Thanks! I am pretty sure this will be the one and only. But I could be surprised...didn't think this one would happen. You are lucky to have so many! Will look forward to seeing your girly stuff.
